What personal care includes
- Bathing and showering, with safety in mind
- Dressing and choosing clothes
- Grooming, hair brushing, and shaving
- Oral care
- Help getting to and from the bathroom
- Help moving from bed to chair, and walking with a walker or cane
- Turning and repositioning for comfort
- Skin and appearance checks so changes get noticed early
What we do not do is medical care. We are not nurses. We do not change wound dressings, give injections, or handle anything that requires a licensed clinician.
Why families call about personal care
Personal care is usually the hardest thing for a family to ask for. Most adult children tell us the same thing: Mom will let a caregiver help her shower, but she will not let me. That is normal. Privacy between a parent and child is a real thing, and having a trained caregiver protects that relationship.
Common reasons families reach out:
- A fall, or a close call in the bathroom
- Skipping showers because it feels unsafe
- Wearing the same clothes for days
- Arthritis or weakness making buttons, socks, and shoes hard
- Recovering from surgery or a hospital stay
- A spouse who can no longer safely help lift or steady their partner
How we protect dignity
We follow their lead
Your loved one decides how much help they want and when. We do what is needed, then step back.
Privacy always
Doors closed, towels used properly, and no rushing. Nobody should feel exposed in their own home.
Their routine, not ours
Shower at night? Coffee first? Favorite robe? We learn the routine and keep it.
Same caregiver when possible
Personal care works best when your loved one knows and trusts the person helping them.
Bathroom safety at home
Most falls at home happen in or near the bathroom. During your free visit we will point out simple changes that make a big difference, like grab bars, a shower chair, better lighting, and non slip mats. See our home safety checklist for seniors.
Care that fits the day
Personal care is often paired with help with daily activities, meal preparation, and companion care, so one visit covers the morning routine, breakfast, and some company.
